Precious experiences in the intensive English course

It might be my last chance to write my blog in the intensive English course. I have learnt a lot in this English course. There are 18 students in our group 7, so we can communicate with each other and make friends more easily. During the past few months, we sat in the same classroom and studied together. We also chatted and made jokes happily together. We discussed with each other about questions, from which we gained a lot of experience. I believe the friendship in our group 7 will last forever. Apart from the friendship, I also learnt to write standard academic essays and speak English more fluently. Thank to our tutors, we learnt a lot about Singapore as well.

I can’t forget my experiences of doing research project in group peace. In this group, I made three lovely friends. As the leader of our group, I feel lucky and honorable to be able to contribute my abilities. We worked together hardly, chatted together happily and got better understandings of each other. I believe we did a good job in our research project since all my group members worked hard for it and our mentor helped us a lot. I’m quite proud of all my members who devote themselves so much to the project. Though we had argument sometimes, I know everyone is trying to make everything better. The most important thing is that we have become intimate friends and the experiences and friendship will definitely help us to be successful in the future.

The intensive English course is quite a gift for me. I feel grateful and happy to gain much from it.

Bridging Course

After several days’ preparation, we made the oral presentation 2 on Wednesday. When classmates began to relax after the presentation, I realized that Bridging Course was coming to an end.
Several months ago, I wanted to skip the Bridging Course and to go to university immediately. However, after one week’s learning, I felt the course was interesting. I learnt a lot of customs and cultures which were difficult to understand by myself. Sometimes, tutors told us some experience in their lives. It somehow helped us to go further in the long run. I am also glad to make many friends in this course. They celebrated the nineteenth birthday for me. It was the first time that I had my birthday without my family, but I still felt very happy that day. Meanwhile, I really appreciated that Ms Wang prepared a cake for me.
In two weeks, all of us will say goodbye to the tutors and the classmates. I will never forget the experience in the bridging course and treasure the friendship.

Before the college entrance examination

Last night, when I made a phone call to my mother, it suddenly occurred to me that it is quite near to the college entrance examination. My brother is to take it in no more than ten days’ time. I was worried about him, so I asked how he had been prepared. However, the answer was not satisfying. He only scored three hundred plus for the latest test, the full mark being seven hundred and fifty. It was really not satisfying to any extend.

Also, I heard about how my aunty worried about my brother. She had been asking some teachers to help my brother for a long time, but it did not seem to work so much. She had been spending a lot of money, and of course, much of her energy. Every time she found my brother playing or absent-minded, she could not control herself to scold him. While maybe because of the pressure, my brother also could not hold himself. Most of time, it ended in a big quarrel or even a fight. That college entrance examination is too important for us that we can hardly bare the pressure. It is not only a test of knowledge, but also a test of psychological endurance. Unfortunately, lots of us lose in the second part even before the test starts.

Now I regret a lot. When I was having my summer holiday, I should have helped him more with his studies and tell him how to deal with the pressure. However, what I did was just thinking of myself. I wanted to be free and did not want to be bothered by him. How could I do that! If I paid more attention to him, maybe things could change a lot. Anyway, I cannot do anything now.
I thought of when I was taking the exam. Although I did not show any anxiety to anyone, actually, I did worried a lot. And I knew that my parents must be no less anxious than me, too. I can fully understand what my aunty and my uncle are thinking about. Perhaps, they did not pay enough attention to my brother’s study before. Perhaps, they are kind of worried and also kind of regretful. I think I am really lucky compared with my brother. At least I did not struggle that much. Moreover, I have managed to be here in Singapore, which I think is a really good choice. Thinking of this, I think I will not complain much.

A little thing

Recently, my parents told me they will come to see me with my grandparents on 22nd, July. When I heard the news, I come up with complicated feelings. Sometimes, I really miss home, but I can adjust myself well to focus on my life here. However, I can feel my parents and grandparents miss me much, even more than me. Since I told them I couldn’t return home this summer, they had been considering to come. It is already their second trip during half the year. One trip here is not cheap. For six people, it may cost about 40 thousand RMB. They told me they would like to see me as well as travel in Singapore. I hope they can play happily here. However, I’m also sure if I go back, it costs little, several thousand RMB. Although my parents asked me not to care about money for many times, I still feel strange, maybe happy and guilty, when they spend so much coming to see me.

Maybe it is my problem, also an old problem for me, I think too much and I need to put down something. I always remind myself to be responsible. So, I always care much; some are necessary, but some are unnecessary details. More than one of my friends has pointed it out for me. Every some weeks, I will feel a bit loss at how much I should care about things around me. I try to think carefully to avoid failure both for me and my friends. But at the same time, I have to be careful not to be so worried. Someone said that I know much and see much. Sometimes, I just want to know less. Maybe it is time for me to put down something and relax more…

Research report

Today, our group members got the feedback from our supervisor. Although there were many mistakes for us to change, we were happy with them because they were part of our constant efforts.
I still remember the days we were busy with the research report before submitting the first draft. We spent nearly 2 whole days in NUS to prepare the first draft. Although we finished every part of the research before those two days, we had to unify them and improve the report as a whole together. It was not an easy job despite every member’s hard work. During the discussions of the report, some disputes were inevitable, but we usually had some ideas after the disputes. They helped us to finish the report. The powerful soft wares also helped us save a lot of time. I often saw some teams process the data by handwork, which was slow and fallible. However, we used fallible software to solve thousands of numbers and got the results in several minutes.
Last week, we relaxed ourselves from the research report. Today, we got supervisor’s help and we were ready to be busy again with correction.

Our visit to two museums of Singapore

Today, after the tensive English progress test, we got a wonderful chance to visit national museum of Singapore and Singapore art museum. It is a good chance to relax ourselves and learn more about Singapore and art at the same time.

In national museum of Singapore, I saw the whole progress of development of Singapore. Each of us was provided a video guide, which is seldom seen in china and can help us to visit the museum more easily and thoroughly. i learned that Singapore was very poor and was governed by England. Singapore went through the World War II, which made Singapore suffering in the battle with Japanese like most Asian countries at that time. After the war, Singapore still could not be free but under the control of Malaysia. Afterwards, because Singapore was made an independent country, it began to grow up very fast. The lives of Singaporeans changed a lot and eventually become a developed country.

In the Singapore art museum, I saw a lot of fantastic exhibitions. They are so special that I could not understand most of them. However, I think they must reflect some deep thoughts. I saw many small artworks when I went into the exhibition hall. These artworks could be touched, which is very different from all the art museums I have been to. There were also many abstract pictures that I cannot understand at all. But, I was told they were very worthy and some of them even worth several millions. I took a lot of photos in Singapore art museum and I would like to review them again sometime to see if I can understand some. Though I did not learn much in the Singapore art museum, but at least I broadened my horizon.

It was nice day that I both took the exam and relaxed. I also enjoyed the time I spent with my friends and classmates. I hope Singapore develops smoothly and I can learn well and grow up happily.

My visit to the SAM

My visit to the Arts Museum

After the second progress test in the morning, we went on our learning journey 2. We visited the National Museum of Singapore and Singapore Art Museum. The National Museum is very interesting; however, I was more attracted by the Art Museum and I found many interesting things there.
When we just stepped into the museum, on the second floor, there was an exhibition of many locally-designed products. Most of those products are all simple living things, such as bags, key rings, rulers and even erasers. At the first sight of those products, I thought they were some souvenirs to be sold. However, looking carefully, I found actually they were small pieces of arts designed by local people, probably students. Although their appearances are simple, sometimes only a pattern or two on the white background, they indeed create great visual effects. I believe that the designers must have put some meanings onto them. Each item has its own story and history. In addition, they are all made of simple materials- plastics, clothes, rubber or wood. Those materials are all very easy to get. The designers just use their imagination and put them together to make everyday things. They let the things around us look more beautiful. My favorite kind of art is just like that-simple and practical.
Art comes from life, but are prior to life. Many people are just focusing on the second part, but they forget the first part which I think is more important. Art should not just be a word to describe something that we all do not know. On the contrary, art should also be practical and in a way that most people can understand. Otherwise, it cannot be called real art.

Birthday party

Last Friday night, we held a special birthday party for the three in our room whose birthday was in April. It was special because they were born in different dates, but we celebrated it together. It is also because it was a surprising party, not only to them, but also to us who prepared it.

Recently, it seems a tradition that when it is a student’s birthday, all his classmates will celebrate it together. However, we have been a little busy these days due to our assignments and research. Therefore, we have no time to gather all the students together. When we talked about it last Wednesday, some of them felt a little disappointed. As a result, the rest of us decided to give them a surprise and prepare a little party for them in the room.

It was very tough to prepare such a party, especially when we did not want them to know it. Our room is so small that everyone could hear what we said, so we had to discuss about it outside the room. There were some times when we were caught discussing by them, we had to rack our brains to think of some excuses so that they would not suspect us. Just at that night, we worked out our plan. We were going to give them the romance of us girls.

On Thursday, we improved our plan and we ordered a cake, bought some candles and balloons, and we even prepared our lines for the party. We were a step closer to the party. Finally, the Friday came. It was quite a busy day. That day, we printed out our lines, arranged our music, and designed our special “certification” for them. To tell the truth, we hardly listened to the lecturer when we were having classes in the afternoon, we had been so busy preparing the party!

When the classes were over, we returned to the dormitory. We pretended to be just as normal; however, we all had a lot to do actually. We asked the boys to play cards with them so that we could be alone and decorate the room. I remember when the one who went to get the cake came back, she was like a spy. That was because she did not want others to know. Then we started our decoration. We almost filled the whole room with balloons, and put up a scroll as if it was a formal party. It was very tiring to blow up the balloons, but we were so excited at that time and forgot about tiredness. We spent totally almost two hours decorating the room. Eventually, we used candles to draw a pattern of heart and put the cake in the center of the heart. Lights off. Candles on. That created a perfect atmosphere. Even us who prepared it were touched by it. We sang together, enjoyed the delicious cake together, and wept together.
There were many sections of our party. And those sections were all to show that we cared about them because we are like a family. And I really appreciate the boys from our university who provided a video to show their blessing.
Time passed so quickly that we did not even realize it. We all had a wonderful night. I think every one of us got happiness from it. At least for me, I felt contented and enjoyed the process of preparing this party, for my cherished friends.

My reflection on research projects

In the bridging course, all of us get a chance to do a research project in group. It an excellent chance to practice our ability of team works. As the leader of the group “Peace” for about half month, I have found I discovered some differences and learnt a lot between researches here and those in my senior high school.

In my senior high school, I have led a similar research about environment protection in my city. At that time, I led about 25 students. Teacher asked me to arrange all the work and let everyone do them own part. It was quite easy because I just needed to list out all the work and divided it. That research lasted less than one week and required just a few samples. Moreover, both the data analysis and the report were done by me. Since we were not required much, it was very easy to finish a brief report. However, this time, we are required to do a complete research. We should design a professional questionnaire and collect more samples. It is a long-term work lasting for months. Another significant difference is that a group has only 4-5 members, which means much more work for everyone.

As a group leader, there are also much more things for me. Since it is a long-term project, I have to arrange files used in a folder and keep them up-to-date in order to make sure our work on the right way. In addition, I should prepare for our each meeting, record main points of meetings in order to keep meetings efficiently. Because there are only 4 people, I have to remember all the time to encourage everyone and create a good atmosphere in order to motivate the group. We only have one chance to see our supervisor per week, so I have to make sure we do enough work ahead of time so we can make most of the chance. Thanks to good efforts of each member, our group project is going on smoothly and orderly.

I experienced a lot of differences here, which are challenging but good for our growth. I am trying everything to make our project better and give members happiness. I hope our project can be done perfectly and we can develop our intimate friendships. There seems not to be much time for us to do our report. However, I believe the use of SPSS will greatly accelerate our process of data analysis. We should keep going on all the time. Believe ourselves! We can make it!

Two Experiences

Recently, I have been losing weight. I am not only on diet but also exercise every day, which is quite challenging for me. I still remember the first day when I did not have lunch. All students except me rushed to the canteen when the class was over. At that time, I felt so hungry that I could do nothing but drink water. The toughest time was when they returned to the classroom, talking happily about what they had for lunch. Some of them were even eating tempting fruit, which lured me to rush to the canteen and feast on dishes. When I was going to step out of the classroom, I hesitated. I said to myself that it was only the first step of losing weight. If I gave in to delicious food, I could hardly succeed in becoming slim. I learn a lot from the experience. Only if we are determined to resist lures can we be able to achieve our goals.

Another experience about choosing my major teaches me to be brave enough to have a try. When the day of choosing the major was around corner, I was extremely worried and anxious. Actually, I had no idea about the choice. Almost everyone told me to follow my heart and choose what I was interested in. However, the problem was that I was unaware of my interest. I just kept asking myself what I really liked. Finally, I got the answer. At the bottom of my heart, I clearly knew my interest. However, I was afraid the interest was temporary and I would regret making such a choice. In addition, I was uncertain whether other majors were more suitable for me. I hesitated to make a decision because I was not brave to take risk. From that, I realize that if we are not brave enough to have a try and struggle for our goal, the decision is always a mistake.

A Friend’s Birthday

What is friend? In the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, it was defined as someone who you like very much and like to spend time with. Several days ago, one of my best friends spent his 19th birthday in China, which I was not able to celebrate with him. Although I like to spend time with him, I cannot spend time with him this year.
Before his birthday, I wrote a postcard to him, but it will arrive at his university after 20 days. I regretted to send him too late because of my laziness. I postponed the sending time again and again and sometimes I do not know what I should write down on such small card. Eventually, I wrote several words to wish he happy birthday. I was glad to successfully connect to him at the night of his birthday. He was fetching a cake from the bakery that time and I talked a lot with him. We talked about different experience in the campus although we had talked about it every time I called him. However, we were never sick of this, and to some extent, it properly cemented our friendship. I said goodbye when hearing some sound from his friends, laughing and singing, to let him enjoy his birthday party there.
It was a pity that I could not see him the whole year even if I will go back China in the end of this year when he will still study in his university. No matter when it will be, we will make fun of each other as the past again.

About choosing majors

Next week, we are going to choose our majors. After considering for a long time, I choose Statistics. Firstly, I do not want to do a lot of experiments, so I will not choose Engineering. Secondly, studying in SoC requires me to stay in front of the computer for a long time, which is not good for my health. Therefore, although Information System is very attractive, I will not choose it.

Finally, in Science, Statistics is almost the easiest to get a good job. Moreover, it does not consist of so many courses, so that it is kind of easy. That means I can have more spare time to do what I would like to do, such as learning other subjects or participating in activities. In addition, it does not have a quota, so that I can enter it as long as I apply for it. That is safer than other choices.

I have heard of lots of people who want to major in Statistics; perhaps their reasons are almost the same as mine. However, I also know someone who wants to learn life science. It is a common knowledge that life science is very tough even for locals, not to mention us. Every two or three seconds, you will meet a new word. I do not think I can bear it. Thus, every year, very few students major in it. When I heard that one of my roommates wanted to choose life science, I was amazed! She knew it was difficult, and she knew it was difficult to get a job, but she insisted. Just because she likes it! I really admire her for her insistence and her courage. When we are making our decisions, we consider too much about other things, such as prospect and career. What we do forget is the interest in our hearts which is also the most important. As long as she insist, with all her interests and efforts, I think she is sure to study well and have a bright future.

Precious experience

Yesterday, we had tests on mathematics and C programming. It is our first checkpoint. However, what I want to recall is not the tests but precious knowledge with precious experience before the tests.

Before the tests, all the classmates, especially girls, worked very hard on both the two subjects. Most of them picked up other related books to read. They all motivated me a lot. I recalled my classmates in my senior high school. The atmosphere of study was quite good as well. But there is something different. In my senior high school, we, boys, always shared our thoughts with each other and girls were always quiet and did their own work. Boys from my class in high school were quite excellent and we talked about everything freely and happily. On the contrary, now, girls exchange their ideas with me while most boys are silent. I feel a little bit lost. There seems to be a block between some boys. I have never come across similar situation before. How I wish I could get some close friends like the guys in my high school!

Though I have shared little with boys now, I learned a lot from girls. It is my first time I find so much in girls. I find girls are more sensitive than boys. However, they can discover some small but essential things easily. I feel like to work with girls because they are careful enough to add some missed ideas. I find girls are more patient than boys. All the girls are willing to listen quietly to what I am saying until I finish it. After that, they show their thoughts slowly but clearly. I find some of them are really mature. Some of the ideas are quite excellent for me but I have never thought about those before. Moreover, I find what boys and girls are like and what life is in girls’ eyes. Many of them think boys are more genius while I think girls were more genius and boys are naughtier. Also, I find girls are mentally weak sometimes and they hesitate at most time.

With communications to girls, I experienced a lot and learned a lot from a different point of view. It is quite interesting to learn from girls. I don’t know whether I am changing. Whatever, I know what a boy need to keep and what a boy need to learn in order to improve.

The King's Speech

It is a biopic about how King George VI overcame his stuttering prblem.

Bertie, Duke of Yoke, was embarrassed about making a speech in public because of his stuttering problem. To help the husband, Bertie's wife, Elizabeth spared no effort to seek assistance. However, all the traditional cures did not work. Finally, she found a speech therapist named Lionel Logue. Even though Bertie was not interested in Lionel's strange method, he was surprised that he could recite a Shakespearean poem fluently while listening to music. Therefore, he began to trust Lionel and accept the treatment. When George V died, his brother, Edward VIII became the king. However, in order to marry the two-divorced Wallis, Edward VIII abdicated, which forced Bertie to be the king. At the end of the movie, with the help of the Lionel, Bertie succeed in making an encouraging speech, leading his people to fight for humanity in the war.

There is a section which impresses me a lot. When Edward VIII insisted on marrying Wallis, Bertie came to ask Lionel for help. Gradually, he began to talk about his miserable child abuse. “My first nanny loved my brother, David, but hated me. When we were presented to our parents for the daily viewing, she would pinch me. Therefore, I would cry and be handed back to her immediately.” At the moment, Bertie was too painful to go on. He could only sing it, “Then she would not feed me, far far away." Every time I saw it, I could not help crying. Even though he was an exalted King, he was still a human eager for tender love.

After I watched the movie, a true friendship between Bertie and Lionel, a King and a speech therapist touched me deeply. Ultimately, it was noted on screen that Bertie and Lionel remained friends for the rest of their lives and Lionel was with Bertie for every wartime speech. Furthermore, Bertie, King George VI, made a Lionel Commander of the Royal Victorian Order for his acts of personal service to the Monarch. What is the most important is that the movie tells us that we should be determined and brave enough to overcome the difficulties when we have physical defects. Never give in or give up!

Picnic

This week is our first recess week. After two months’ study, our group members decided to have a picnic together. We planned to have a picnic on the near mountain this Monday afternoon.
We set out at 3:00pm in the afternoon. When we got to the destination, all of us are exhausted because of the hot weather and heavy food. Food was put on the desk of the pavilion on the mountain. We had a drink and rested after a long hiking. Then, we looked at the view from the pavilion. The sea under the mountain was very beautiful. From the mountain, we could clearly see the factory and road beyond the sea. I enjoyed the good view silently.
After several minutes, we open the packets to have snacks. At first, we only ate food and talked about the bridging course. Then, several monkeys on the security barrier near the pavilion got our attention. It was our first time to see monkeys in Singapore although our tutor told about some stories that monkeys usually appeared at his home. We are so surprised at seeing monkeys that nobody focused on our food. When I looked around, a cunning monkey had already went to our back slinkingly. Fortunately, it stole nothing before we protected the food on the table. We kept our eyes on the monkeys and expected them to leave. The monkeys tore the plastic bags near the barriers but found nothing left in the bags. Finally, they climbed away disappointedly.
Before we went back at 9:00pm, all of us were immersed in the comfortable environment and talked about some impressive stories in our lives. We enjoyed the pleasant time and were unconscious that time flew so fast.

A terrible experience

Today is the Sunday of our recess week, students of both NUS and NTU from Dalian University of Technology went out together to Pulau Ubin .It is an isolated island at sea. Like most parts of Singapore, it has a lot of trees. More precisely, it is a small forest. Most classmates enjoyed themselves there, enjoying riding bicycles and some of them even made it to learn how to ride. However, my experience was kind of miserable.
As we were told that the island was a little big for us to walk around, almost everyone decided to rent a bicycle and ride around. Those who cannot ride could sit at the back of the double bike. I had not ridden since I was at junior middle school. But about three months ago, I tried and managed to ride from East Coast to Changi Airport, which covered a long distance. Therefore, I thought I was able to ride this time also. But I was wrong.
As soon as we have paid for our bicycles, everyone started and went to different directions. Within a few minutes, there was only one classmate in my sight. We rode thought a few upslopes and was a little tired. Then there was a big downslope in front of us. We were happy to see it and my classmate let her bike go freely down the road. At first, I acted like that also. However, when there was a slight turning point. I felt the bike out of my control. It was too fast! I could even hear the sound of the bike changing to a higher frequency! I wanted to slow down, so I held the brake. However, it seemed to be at a wrong time. The bike leaned to the right side and slowed down, but I was not prepared to slow down yet. I was faster than the bike!
As you can imagine, I fell off the bike and fell onto the ground at a very high speed.
My hands, my arms, my legs were all seriously injured with scratches. There was even a big scratch on my face close to my eye. At that time, I was really blank in mind and did not know what to do. Thank goodness! My classmate was there, not far in front. She came in time and used her water to clean my wound and called for help. It was quite difficult because no one knew where they were and where I was. After a while, some other students came and found us. We were saved.
A boy offered to take me so that I did not have to ride. That was so considerate of him! For one thing, I was hurt all over my body. For another, I was a little frightened and did not dare to ride any more. But I felt guilty because he was so thin that he was even lighter than me, which made it very hard for him to ride. In addition, I did not ride meant one had to hold one more bike while riding. That was also very tiring. Other classmates also came to help me and provided bandage for me. Everyone cared about me instead of laughing at me. Although tired and hurt, I felt warm inside my heart.
Actually, at first the injury was not that painful. Maybe I was numb and was not feel the pain at that time. However, as it was hot, I sweated a lot. That made things worse. My wound hurt and I found more and more wounds on my hands, arms, legs, shoulders and face.
Some of my classmates told me that if a person fell down, he would grow up. That was to encourage me. And I did learn something from this terrible experience: First, friendship is precious and we should always help and trust each other.Second, falling off a bicycle is really dangerous.Third, I will never ride a bicycle in Singapore unless I am sure it is safe!

Choosing majors

It is almost the time for us to choose our major. Luckily, there is NUS Open House these two days, which gives us a great chance to get better knowledge of majors. I have learnt much from it indeed. However, I haven’t decided which to choose yet.

In front of us, there are three main faculties, science, engineering and computing. It was quite hard for almost everyone to choose because there are a lot of choices. I love mathematics a lot and I was in the department of mathematics in Nanjing University, so I first think about mathematics and statistics. Pure math seems to be quite boring since it is all about theories and logics. On the contrary, applied math and statistics are both focus on practical uses of math.

From wikipedia, I know statistics is just a branch of applied mathematics. It makes me quite confused about these two departments. I got to the Open House and asked the professors of both departments. The professor from statistics told me they focused on data analysis and the professor from applied mathematics told me they mainly do something on mathematical models to solve various problems. I couldn’t understand what they explained to me at the beginning because mathematical models and data analysis seemed to be the same thing for me.

Since I was so confused, I stuck to the professors and volunteer seniors and kept asking questions. After they took some examples, I had the right ideas. Statistics is specially study uncertain phenomena and probabilities of a likely-to-happen thing, and then analyze or forecast according to the data. Applied mathematics focus on regular and relatively certain things, and then uses mathematical models to solve problems.

I was a little happier when I distinguished the two departments. However, I still don’t know which to choose because I think they are both suitable to me. To accompany my friends, I went to others faculties and departments with them. I heard a lot about others’ conversations, many people couldn’t decide their major and even their faculty. Lots of information about other majors didn’t arouse me much interest in those areas, but at least after knowing something about other majors, I almost had 100 percent certainty to study in faculty of science and learn something about math.

I know that lots of students are not sure which to choose. According to me, the prime belief is to choose the one I feel happy and free to learn it. Since there are still some days, I will think about my choice again to make a final decision. Wish all of us can successfully take our ideal majors.

Love or Just Friendship

What is the difference between a female friend and a girlfriend? I am usually confused about the friendship between a boy and a girl.
Most people's consciousness of gender divisions may grow at the age of 11, when students are in adolescence. Some of them start so-called love for the first time. Why do they fall in love? The reason may be his handsomeness or her beauty, or the care between two lonely students. They think the love can be kept forever that time, but usually, they will fall out of love after the fresh feeling. Can we call this kind of love true love? With my growth, I think it is an intimate friendship instead of love. The friendship is like the one with another friend of same sex. Because of the difference of gender, a girl is usually more careful and thinks more about others’ feeling. So a boy is easily to be inclined to say more what is rarely talked about between two boys. That is why boys need female friends. However, many people do not realise it. Some people confirm the love without any thinking, and they often have another lover after several months. A friend told me that she was dating with the 12th boyfriend some day. The word shocked me. After she talked about the experiences in the past, I feel she still cannot differentiate the friendship from love.
Although I have said much about love and friendship, sometimes I am even confused whether I love her or just want her to be my lifelong female friend. It is still a problem to distinguish.Maybe different people hold different views towards love and friendship. The opinion stated above is just
my personal viewpoint.

Memory

Recently, I have always recollected the past. So have many of us done. We looked at the old photos, wrote articles about the past and so on.It was perhaps because we were entering the third stage of the "culture shock",called "regression phase". We no longer felt excited about being in a new place after staying in Singapore for three months. Worse still, we were worried about choosing majors and preparing the check point. All of these things put us on great pressure and we were just like a fish out of water. Consequently, we felt so lonely and helpless that we were eager to ask for the warmth from the memory.

These days, I am missing the tough but happy time in my high school. Those days were quite meaningful and unforgettable to me. Our life was full of endless lessons and exercises on that time. However, on the other hand, we felt pretty motivated and passionate because we were getting closer to our goals. What was the most important was that we had friends, parents and teachers who shared our joyfulness and sorrow with us. I could get the care and support from them. Memory is so significant to us that it can provide us the courage to go on to a certain extent. Nevertheless, if we are lost in the past, we will be rejected by the future. A person who lives on the memory can never lead a happy life because we cannot come back to the past.

Finally, I would like to share a poem about the memory with you.

dear friends,
how's your life?it's been a while since I heard you laughed,
I, sometimes, dream of us so clearly,
in this making of 'memory'

our past days surely are beautiful,
the things keep our memory books so full.
the things we left unchanged are so many,
in this making of 'memory'

dear friends,
where have you been?
our day, our time, do you still have that memory?
we live our lives now, differently.
we are, but for the making of another 'memory'

The legend Nighteen Hundred

A few days ago, I watched a movie called 'The Legend Nineteen Hundred', and I was really deeply impressed by it. Now I will say something about this movie.
On a luxurious ship travelling between Europe and America, a baby was found left on a piano-maybe his parents wanted some rich people to adopt him and to offer him a better life. However, it was a poor worker on the ship that adopted him and gave him the name-Nineteen Hundred. He had no identity, no nationality, even nothing to prove his existence. In order not to be found by others, he could not get off the ship even once. However, he was a genius for piano, he never heard of the word 'jazz', but he could compose the most beautiful piece of rhyme. When he grew up, he became the pianist on the ship. His music was so peaceful and affective that every time he played, people would became joyful and dance involuntarily to his music. Soon, everyone knew that there was a best pianist who never got off the ship.
Also on this ship, the pianist met a trumpet player named Max, who later became his best friend. They both served in the orchestra on the ship and spent their best time together. And Max was the only person who understood him and always supported him.
Nineteen Hundred had never stepped onto the land, not even once in his life. There was one time that he had already decided to get off and experience the life on the land. However, at the sight of the flourishing and busy city in front of him, he hesitated. Eventually, he returned to the ship and continued his life on the ship. He loved a girl very much, and even composed a peaceful and touching melody for her. But he never had the courage to tell her about his love. As the girl got off the ship later, his love could just exist in memories. He spent all his life on the ship- born on it, grew up on it, work on it, and finally died with it.His story was quite a legend.

There were three plots that left the deepest impression on me.The first one comes when Max first got onto the ship. He was not used to the life on the sea, and became seriously seasick when there was a storm. Just then, Nineteen Hundred came and offered to help him. He asked Max to join him playing the piano on the shaking deck. They just sat in front of the piano letting themselves slide freely with it. It seemed that they were waltzing and enjoying the accompanying of the storm. And with the help of the music, Max did not feel sick any more.
The second one is the competition between Nineteen Hundred and the inventor of jazz. That 'master' was very proud and did not believe that there was anyone who played better than him, so he came specially to compete with Nineteen hundred. At first, Nineteen Hundred did not want to compare with him, however, he was later exasperated by him and performed a wonderful melody which shocked everyone present. People were all swept off their feet by the music and there was a complete silence. Then, Nineteen Hundred put a cigarette on the string of the piano. To everyone's astonishment, the cigarette lighted itself due to the high temperature of the string. From this we can see how proficient he was at it.
The third one is the end of the story. Many years later, the ship could not serve anymore, and people wanted to destroy it. Only Max knew that Nineteen Hundred was still on the ship, he believed that. Therefore, he got aboard and searched for Nineteen Hundred. He tried to persuade him to get off the ship, but he failed. For Nighteen Hundred, the ship was his whole world. While, the land was like a piano with infinite keys. It was not a piano he could play, it was God’s piano. Those were his last words to Max:
“I could never get off this ship
At best, I can step off my life
After all, I don't exist for anyone
Forgive me, my friend
but I'm not getting off”
With the burst of the ship, the legend of Nineteen Hundred, and a legend of music finally ended.
We were sometimes like him in some aspects. We tend to live within our own world, and feel tired of the busy city. Perhaps that is why I am impressed with this movie.
