My visit to the Arts Museum
After the second progress test in the morning, we went on our learning journey 2. We visited the National Museum of Singapore and Singapore Art Museum. The National Museum is very interesting; however, I was more attracted by the Art Museum and I found many interesting things there.
When we just stepped into the museum, on the second floor, there was an exhibition of many locally-designed products. Most of those products are all simple living things, such as bags, key rings, rulers and even erasers. At the first sight of those products, I thought they were some souvenirs to be sold. However, looking carefully, I found actually they were small pieces of arts designed by local people, probably students. Although their appearances are simple, sometimes only a pattern or two on the white background, they indeed create great visual effects. I believe that the designers must have put some meanings onto them. Each item has its own story and history. In addition, they are all made of simple materials- plastics, clothes, rubber or wood. Those materials are all very easy to get. The designers just use their imagination and put them together to make everyday things. They let the things around us look more beautiful. My favorite kind of art is just like that-simple and practical.
Art comes from life, but are prior to life. Many people are just focusing on the second part, but they forget the first part which I think is more important. Art should not just be a word to describe something that we all do not know. On the contrary, art should also be practical and in a way that most people can understand. Otherwise, it cannot be called real art.
