The Godfather

The Godfather

"I am going to make him an offer he cannot refuse." It is his skill for negotiating. He is an elegant gentleman who holds both Martini and butcher knife. He is a professional executioner in glamorous suit who does a sordid affair. It is only his gesture that can take someone's life. It is also his smile that can make a big difference. He is a respectable man as well as a killer who is proficient in social rules. No matter a politician or the boss of funeral parlor, they are obeying his gentle and cultivated orders all the time. All of these is the result of his honorable promise "Someday, and the day may never come; I will ask a service of you. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift on my daughter's wedding day." However, what is it that endows him the magical power. The power let him take charge of everything when he is just sitting at the dark corner of a room. People respect him, love him, and even are in fear of him. He is so deep and complicated. The most respectable virtue of him is that he knows his responsibility as a Godfather. As it is said "greater power means more responsibility". So he never goes against his principles and never trades drugs. As a result, he can deal with the relationship with politician skillfully and easily.

After watching the Godfather, I have some complex feelings. I think life is not so easy and simple as we imagined. It is not the food, if we do not like it, we can spit it out of your mouth. Everything is not depended on our willing. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices to our families, to our friends, to the society, and to ourselves. Michael did not want to involve into his family business. But when the crisis came, he stood out. As a human being, we are not isolated. We are in different groups. So that, all of us have responsibilities. A position where we are, a responsibility we should take.
