A good neighbor is better than a brother far off
“A good neighbor is better than a brother far off” is a saying in China, which means “Yuan qin bu ru jin lin” in Chinese. And I think it is really true.
Now we are all in Singapore, far away from our parents, brothers, sisters and old friends. And most of us have never gone abroad before. We sometimes feel homeless more or less. And I think most of us have already met many problems. Whom we can turn to for help? In China, we often ask our parents or friends for help. Now we can just call back and tell them our trouble, but they cannot come and help us. The only thing they can do is to listen to us and give us advice. Nevertheless, we have new friends, roommates and tutors here. We can ask them for help.
There is a saying that “Distant water cannot put out a nearby fire”. Perhaps we cannot get help from those people in China, but we can rely on our friends here.
One of my roommates lost her wallet weeks ago. She was very nervous and did not know what to do. She told her parents, but they could only comfort her and gave her support, which is also very important. And her friends in Singapore can help her do many things that those who are far away in China cannot do. So I think it is important to get well along with people here, because when we eagerly need help, only they can help us.
In conclusion, we cannot only rely on our parents. We should trust our friends and neighbors, because they are the only backbone of us when we are far away from our parents.
