Your eyes big so your world small

Since it is just after the Chinese New Year, my content is also related to it. But I’m not writing about my experience; I would like to share my thoughts. It is the first time for me and the majority of us SM3 students to celebrate the Chinese New Year without our parents nearby. During the holiday, I happened to come across a passage written by an overseas student. She complained about the loneliness and the loss of the festival atmosphere. Besides, the writer showed her envies of the friends in China as well. In fact, every coin has two sides. It is normal for us to feel a bit of homesick because we are far from our dearests. And I also feel a pity that we cannot set off firecrackers here in Singapore. However, at the same time, why not think of those good points of living abroad? We have gotten the opportunity to enjoy a totally different way of celebrating, which our Chinese friends cannot experience. We were invited to our host family’s house to learn how the Singaporeans spend their holiday. They taught me about the customs and in return I told them some specials idioms of Chinese. Apart from that, we have gradually made a number of new friends with local adolescents. The great author Lu Xun once said, the more Chinese the culture seems, the more it belongs to the world. If we stay in the deep well as the frog, we will never see the outside sky. Remember we now call our earth the village.

  2. That's the spirit, Yummy! Make good use of this opportunity to immerse yourself in another culture - that would certainly make your learning journey a lot more interesting.
