Something about tradition

It is already 22th Jan, 2011, two week before our spring festival. It must be the first time for most of us celebrating it outside our hometown, stay apart with our parents but with our friends here in Singapore. I think it still can be some of our precious experience in our whole life, so see it in the bright side. Actually, I am not going to talk something more about our special spring festival this year, but some reflections on our tradition.

This kind of reflection actually should be derived from the end of my journey in Japan this summer vocation. Luckily, when I travelled to Tokyo, I witnessed the preparation of their celebration of the firework, which would be held forth a year. I was shocked. On one hand, everyone in the street that day, no matter the young or the old, no matter men or women, all dressed up their traditional costume, the kimono (He Fu). Maybe in tourists’ eyes, the locals all dressed weirdly. When I first faced this kind of situation, I even doubt that was there a cosplay show? Obviously, I was wrong. The kimono, is part of their nation costume. They still keep this tradition till today. They will dress up their own kimono when a celebration or a significant traditional is held.

On the other hand, I was a little bit sad. Some traditions of China, such as the tradition costume (Han Fu), or some habitudes of our festival, gradually disappear. People in order to catch up with the pace of the society rapidly development, abandon their original part, the traditional part, leave it alone. From this point of view, Japan is a positive example, we should learn from them.

Even now in Singapore, I can feel the spring festival atmosphere more than some big cities in China. It is unbelievable, isn’t it?

Keeping our tradition doesn’t mean we have to accept them all, but we have the obligation to respect it and develop the positive parts in our daily actions. The tradition cultural should not be abandoned due to the modern society. Even the Japanese keep them well, why not us?
