A piece of news and my thoughts
Today a piece of news in THE STRAITS TIMES attracted my attention, I think it is about contradiction between the ideality and reality which enlightens my deep thoughts about the future.
Nowadays more and more Singaporean lawyers prefer to go into commercial litigation rather the criminal ones. Lawyers focusing on the criminal cases earn much less than their contemporaries who have chosen commercial law. As a result of it, they will get less of an annual bonus, because they bring less profit to their firms. Another reason is that most criminal cases end up as “plead guilty” cases, which they cannot find challenges and there is room to grow in commercial cases because they are more varied.
I think the original intention to be a lawyer is desire to helping people and the justice. After all life is not just about money, the criminal cases are really about a person’s life and liberty. What makes more sense is getting emotional reward.
As an undergraduate, we should insist on our dream and try our best to keep a clear-head in the world which is full of profit and money. It reminds me of the actor ‘lines in an Indian movie THREE IDIOTS “look at the ridiculous man there who studied engineering in university and went to America to learn administration, then became a banker. Just for more money”. Being a person who believes in idealism may face many trouble and be laughed by others. But we must believe what we do follows my will and is right. We may be not rich, but the world loses a sordid man with lots of money. So we make the world a little better.
TO my sadness, more people are too focused on makeing money. They no longer follow their will just follow money.Actually, Money does not mean everyting.Do not be controlled by money.
