Last Sunday, a friend of mine invited me to his church for the musical which performed at his church. This is my first time to go to the church since I have been to Singapore. I think some of our Chinese may have strong aversion about the religion because of our culture background. On the contrary, I think we should learn from different religions though we are so-called free thinkers.
Before the musical started, people all started to sing the hymns and prayed. Hymns are the songs of praise to God and I found they really touching my heart. The most frequent word I heard during the hymns was the word “exalted”. I thought it is the best way for them to show their sincere respect to God.
The musical was all about Jesus Cries, the son of God, his story. How did Jesus Cries born. How he healed the blind, the dumb, the deaf when he grew up. In the end, how he was betrayed by his servant and how he was crucified. I learnt a lot about the history of Jesus Cries during the musical and I thought it was a valuable experience.
At the end of the show, the host showed us a photograph which was taken in Japan after the devastating earthquake and tsunami. It was a lone pine tree, standing uprightly in the bare ground. It used to be one of the trees of a whole forest. Alive is hope. That is what the host wanted to convey. Yes, it is true. When we are living in the world, there will always be a hope. We have no excuse to give up our life.
